October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime. However, that is just what goes reported. According to National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, domestic violence is the most unreported crime. Only half of the domestic violence incidents are reported to the police.
Please join Alexandra House on Thursday, October 21st for Wear Purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Day, also known as #PurpleThursday!
#PurpleThursday where we are encouraged to wear purple to show support and awareness for domestic violence. It is a reminder to victims/survivors that they are not alone and that they matter.
How to participate:
It’s simple; all you have to do is wear as much or as little purple as you possibly can. Then share photos of you, your family, your pet, your office, and whoever else joins on social media with the following #PurpleThursday, #AlexandraHouse, #DVAM2021, #MNSaysNoMore, #EndDV! You can use our ‘I Wear Purple Signs’ or Purple Photo Props in your photos, download, and print them out.
