Volunteer Opportunities


Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities

Women’s Advocate
Provide support, information, and referrals to shelter residents and to women accessing the crisis line; assist with shelter activities; complete shelter intakes and departures; and assist staff with meeting individual resident needs.

Support Group Co-Facilitator
Co-facilitate one of three community support groups for women who are experiencing domestic abuse.  Must have at least six months of volunteer experience with Alexandra House.

Childcare Provider
Assist in preparing and providing activities, childcare, children’s intakes and support groups for community children and/or children and youth residing in shelter.

Summer Violence Prevention Advocate
Assist the Violence Prevention Coordinator in providing support groups and violence prevention education in the community.

On-Call Hospital Advocate
Respond to referrals from area hospitals and clinics; meet with patients who have experienced domestic violence and provide support, information, referrals and safety planning.

Non Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities

Facility Volunteer
Assist property staff with various tasks; baking, cleaning, serving meals, picking up supplies, stocking shelves and sorting donations.

Volunteer Opportunities for Families and Groups

Special Service Projects
Alexandra House welcomes various community and or civic groups, churches, students, families and others who have interest in doing one-time volunteer projects or helping with special events.

Internship Opportunities

Internship positions are available in Shelter, Community and Administrative programs. Internships are designed to meet the requirements of the individual students and Alexandra House. Students are accepted from all Minnesota and out of state technical schools, community colleges and universities.

Volunteer Training


The next volunteer training will begin with an informational meeting on Monday, May 19th, from 7:00-8:30pm. Potential volunteers must attend all dates to complete the 30 hour required training.
