Youth Violence Prevention Services
To realize our mission of inspirings social change through education, support and advocacy, we dedicate two full time staff to coordinate prevention and intervention programs in four school districts:
- Anoka-Hennepin
- Centennial
- Spring Lake Park
- Fridley
Services offered include:
Presentations – we offer age-appropriate presentations to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 on a variety of topics including:
- Respecting each other
- Healthy relationships
- Domestic violence
- Sexual violence
- Dating violence
- Child abuse
Teen Advocacy Services – we offer support in both group settings and individually for students who have experienced violence in their homes, among peers or in dating relationships – nearly 300 students last year alone. To learn more about our teen support group for survivors of sexual violence, please visit our support groups page.
The Choose Respect Program – In 2005 we launched the Centers for Disease Control’s Choose Respect Campaign in local middle schools, involving youth to actively encourage their peers to choose respect in all relationships. We have been recognized nationally by the CDC for our efforts, and our work is being modeled in other programs nationwide. You can learn more at www.chooserespect.org.
Summer Programming – Our work with youth doesn’t end when the school year does. Throughout summer months, we work with other organizations and neighborhoods to continue offering individual and group support to victims of domestic violence, as well as our Choose Respect programs.
